Yes, worldOne lovs y’all  Yes! .. how do you fall in brotherly and sisterly love at first  s o u n d ? 1beat  that’s how  ! (Found Sound/ Bang on a Can)  presented a day~long celebration of its recent California residency at Montalvo, at PublicWorks SF, and then a pair of educational/youth performances and a final all~day concert at Montalvo Arts in Saratoga. 1beat Fellow Fidel + Corey .. 

 Wow.  WOW!  Wow! W O O W!   Congratulations  +   E n  c o r e ! 

Thank you and Appreciation to all Fellows and Co-Founder/Directors Jeremy Thal and Chris Marianetti and the directorial staff who moved so adroitly and kindly (Elena! 1beat  Leah! Montalvo ) around and behind the scenes. 1beat Co-Founder Jeremy + your friendly neighborhood dj worldOnelove ..

What a utterly refreshing and enthralling musical experience, the likes of which we have not enjoyed since WOMAD festivals. ( Why has WOMAD not returned to the USA in tooooo many years?! ) Real musicality realizes in all kinds of earthnic settings, rustic, desert dusty, cityscapes, or jungly countrysides, all regularly extraordinary, from which the 1beat fellows arise. In this elegantisimo setting, we wandered and followed our eyes and ears through multiple musical atmospheres… perhaps feeling more ourselves like a flock of happy brrds or bees: invited and treated to Interactive musical playgrounds on patios or tree-shaded lawn, roving concerts ( arresting and tender oud + invocals at the Love Temple/ Garden, a Colombian gaita-led parade, calls and response percussives, loops,  and lively dances, reaching a happy apogee in an afternoon Garden Amphitheatre showcase ( the finale /encore pictured above) of four 1beat Fellows’ (“pods”) ensembles .  The Love Garden, nicely spruced UP, below …

The Montalvo Estate venue is in itself, musical and quite classically beautiful, elegant, spacious, forest and garden encircled, and thus fragrant.  The fellows resided there for two weeks prior to offering the musicalfroots of their new collaborations in various pod-ensembles +smaller workshop rhythm, dance, and musical sections. 1beat Co-founder Chris + Corey ..

In its third annual iteration, a very passionate and open collective Spirit of 1beat’s mission was ever-present, in every interaction and musical moment. Intentional, from the heart of the musician as a person, and as a musicultural ambassador.  This Spirit was so Present, that days later I am chiming with it, feeling again just how P r e c i o u s it was to be in the midst, and IS. This Spirit IS , and it was invoked by 25 young musicians ages 19-35, visiting and collaborating from 17 countries. View/Meet all the fellows, click this !… 

Ultimately, we fell in love with everyone. Now that’s cultural diplomacy, thank you Department of State. 3 cups of tea …  you know, with a Daniela + Ahamed + Blessing +  a shimmy shimmy shake.

 

So, there is a deeper wave in the world, added dimensions of seeing and feeling, beyond land and resource grabs, cultural colonization and clan-clashing  .. we know this .. and its seems to blossom naturally in the presence of collective intentionality, open hearts +open minds … armature not armaments ? ..  pearls of water on the hips not gun ships ?  Life beyond national/ized fears and separatisms..

Around the ol worldOneradio corral … we ourselves believe in  B E A U T Y .. and the beats … the universe is vibratory .. vibz it UP with worldOnelove !

Message: I don’t know how you guys suddenly appeared on my radio dial, but wow.

i listened for hours to radio brava yesterday and couldn’t believe my ears. i was afraid if i turned my dial away i would never find *that* station again. fortunately, i have found you here so i know you’re real and that i will be able to find you again. i haven’t been so excited about an fm station in a long long time. thank you thank you thank you…….

we understand, we know  .. the FMs are modest to say the least … and p r e c i o u s  … we did not intend worldOne to be a secret … we rather believe that this sound and feeling merits broad availability and wide o p e n appreciation and enjoyment .. it’s just that after talking to everyone we could think of ( local, a longish list of majors, coast to coast broadcasters, Artists and even Mr. Branson!),  and or get an audience with, nearly 2o years ago …  we found a modest home in little keCg which welcomed the Mission.. Thank you Prentice, Philip, and WCCUSD.  And since them we’ve just been doin it and bein it and doin it ( well, we hope).  Funnily enough? the station was indeed underground, in a oft-flooding basement/first floor at ECHS for the first 10 years or so of our nightly broadcasts … then we were in a portable for several years,   and now in a pair of much more dignified small studios in a classroom suite … please feel free to call to arrange a visit ! or pop in when you are on- site at El Cerrito High School and Performing Arts Center  …

…or is this just serendipity? I just ran into you accidentally on my car radio yesterday and said, “Wow.” Now I go to your website and find “I don’t know how you guys suddenly appeared on my radio dial, but wow.” Something must be in the air. Keep it up.

Our sweet 16^th annual festival is rising right before our eyes, and these are krazi-bizidays as we still manage to manage classrooms, all things keCg Public Radio  station and a sole Traditional Healing practice  …  we call this part tongue-in-cheek ..stresstival .. it is so very, very demanding.. all day all night … requiring sacrifice of time and resources .. we are all in..

Speaking of sleep, our sleep is bustling … just enough, not really restorative, but it’s that season .. and those weeks of ramping up .. loading out to Cerrito Vista.  I awoke this am,  with a dream running,  showing me my own hands working the solution to a sign construction  task I had not yet consciously worked out..nice !

For those who I may have disappointed, or neglected in my passion to see this done, I apologize. please forgive me. To my family and friends, from whom I am too often absent, immersed, I ask for your understanding and forgiveness. If it’s not abundantly clear what motivates and drives me what have seen and see, I hope that time will GRACE and bear out the fruit of these particular ex-insperiences, works/offerings, and that you will feel proud. That said, time cannot be replaced, as it is a river. May we spend more time together loving and living and crying and laughing, on and in the River.
