Our sweet 16^th annual festival is rising right before our eyes, and these are krazi-bizidays as we still manage to manage classrooms, all things keCg Public Radio  station and a sole Traditional Healing practice  …  we call this part tongue-in-cheek ..stresstival .. it is so very, very demanding.. all day all night … requiring sacrifice of time and resources .. we are all in.. 

 Please support the festival and its participants to the fullest..

…if we have done it all right ..the Blesstival follows .. the music and invocations and joy goes UP .. and the skies listen … and the blessing come raining down… into our waking reality and our new heavy sleep and reflective revelatory dreams …

Speaking of sleep, our sleep is bustling … just enough, not really restorative, but it’s that season .. and those weeks of ramping up .. loading out to Cerrito Vista.  I awoke this am,  with a dream running,  showing me my own hands working the solution to a sign construction  task I had not yet consciously worked out..nice !

Real Musicicans Drive Tractors  (too!) Steveland , Shakira , Prince , Lauren, Ceelo, Carlos .. y’all are welcomed any time .. though you’d have to work with us on the budget. 

Alas, to our peril … the despair-depression-oppression-sexi-broody-vampire-penguin-antisocial-vanity-me-me-media- business seems to pay faaaar better in the short, brutish, ecocidal-spiricidal haul ..

For those who I may have disappointed, or neglected in my passion to see this done, I apologize. please forgive me. To my family and friends, from whom I am too often absent, immersed, I ask for your understanding and forgiveness. If it’s not abundantly clear what motivates and drives me what have seen and see, I hope that time will GRACE and bear out the fruit of these particular ex-insperiences, works/offerings, and that you will feel proud. That said, time cannot be replaced, as it is a river. May we spend more time together loving and living and crying and laughing, on and in the River.

The above are images gently invited and recorded by my beloved wife Debra Sue. For my part, I follow my ears ? l o l ?  …  the street was throbbing and pulsing and primping and fluffing, feathers and sequins and fish-nets oh my … Father Sun peeked over the Vics and Edwardians to illumine the tributes of the Aztec dancers.. and I, for my part .. was going going gonnie …. swooning .. copal, prayers to the four directions .. all generations .. and I could hear them .. feel them … echoing across time … no drugs … just natural magic … invoked ..  from the Center of 24th and Bryant in the Heart of La Mission.  All shimmered and shook las cuerdas palpably and powerfully .. Good Axe and Amen!

Carnaval is for ALL .. genuine festivals ( not commercial spectacles) are fountains of pyche-spiritual renewal …   the streets + parks + citizens + foods + flora + fauna + flavors + murals + families > flower-burst into grander dimensionality …. connection …   understood and supported by the creative kinetic arts-participants and citizens, or alas, systematically misunderstood and under-appreciated, thus displaced by the pressures of gentrifications, corporatizations, greedia, landlordovers, surreal estate, skinnier jeans, smartalec phones.. with all due respect to all the preceeding …. its a great day to think and feel indigenous, feel communally, community-connected  ..  a chance to Open UP Our Minds and Hearts …. and Celebrate, Acknowledge, Give Thanks to Flowering Flowing LIFE .. Giving Ourselves to Life by Immitating and Honoring IT .. with all its glorious texture and color and music and sense and playfull sexi sensuality. A chance?  if not a happy, life-affirming obligation.

And yes, the sweat to Shake our Beauty and the sweat to make it happen , is the best perfume. Speaking of which, we just implemented our second SYB event at El Cerrito High School .. kultimulchural dayclub social-style worldance .. everyone dances with everyone ..  to great results and viBz allaround.. Ms. Kronenberg and Dance Production ROX!

While keCg Youth Crew, my daily charge, have all kinds of supraG rubadubbermade lov, bOuNce, ran dom nes  s, NRG, and curiosity … along with broadly self-reflective, admitted generational laziness, distraction and/or procrastination …  arrgh!! +  XOALL! And Just being h u e m a n, adolescing, Earth, Bay Area, WE Day 2014.

Well, whod’a guessed. I suppose it’s more than time … lol !?

When we began this worldOneradio+festival Musical Odyssey nearly 20 years ago ( Hey! a musical ! ), with all the elements of a proper Odyssey/Journey .. Corey honestly b e l i e v e d that Listeners, Artists, Sponsors, Soccer Moms, Labels, Industry Executives, Administrators of various stripes would receive our proposal and intention happily and enthusiastically, virtually immediately… it all seemed so fresh, upwelling , present. new and old, musipoetically interesting, eclectic, culturally nuanced, educative, affirming, and natural. That last part? is what apparently has taken nearly 20 years to catch on? amidst all the erstwhile socio-cultural inertia or spasms and deepening clamor, titillation, stroboscopes and weapons of mass distraction, TMI, information-overload of Modern Times, Race Babbling. (Our particular one-more-radio-and-festival-option is certainly one kind of those).

20 years ago was when I had plenty of dark thick braided hair + a strong radio industry resume, and a car/van that was 20 years younger, to boot.  Well y’all know Corey felt compelled to immerse in Public Education, and simultaneously been “declined” by erstwhile industry radio, found a home for worldOneradio in little FM’s 88.1 keCg 97.7,(Thanks Phil, Prentice, Jeanie ) and @10 years subsequent, of course, online. The “Radio Industry” per say, was momentarily piqued, but ultimately unmoved by worldOne overtures, internally reactive and broadly convulsive (due to the emergence of internet), to the point where, today, I hardly recognize it, and likely vice versa. Life is a River and the river has moved on. Are you ridin’ in the river in you tiny canoe ? Are you sittin on the sidelines watchin the view?  (Speech)

Just perhaps … perhaps akin to a JAZ musician who, perhaps, finds a somewhat broader and receptive/appreciative audience, after a few decades, usually afar, and sometimes nearby ?

And perhaps, Akin to Gandalf, who having battled, tilted, exhausted and surrendered … transcending and travelling across space and time returned (to you,us ) as Gandalf the White (Ifa/Obatala) ..
